SA ARMS INDUSTRY CONNECTIONS

OUR CONNECTIONS WITH THE SOUTH AFRICAN ARMS INDUSTRY.

Article: Frank Winder

Paradigm Alliance was privileged, as part of its commitment to keep up to date within the highly rated South African Arms Industry, which has been noted for its excellence in the development and enhancement of new and valuable technologies in the military sector. This evolution has always been important and is particularly so in this day and age of rapid change and development.

Not far behind and particularly, if one is in a conflict situation, resupply, repairs and continuous management of resources plays a massively important role in being able to sustain an effective military presence.

During the week of 18th – 22nd September, the South African Defence Sector has staged an impressive security seminar and demonstrations of weapon systems and military vehicles at Armscor’s, Gerotek testing and conference centre near, Pretoria. To this event were invited senior members of and participants in the Defence industry including a host of military attaches from various countries which are prominent participants in the strategic Southern African/African environment.

An illuminating (under current circumstances) overview of the South African Defence Industry was provided, including market size, and trends, budget allocations, regulations, key acquisitions the competitive landscape and forecast for the industry (delivered by James Kerr, a notable Defence Expert).

What is sure is that in line with many countries around the world and in Africa in particular, change is occurring rapidly, and strategic and economic alliances are under review and scrutiny, and it is in this kind of environment that a country’s stability is ensured by reconfirming expectations and making the necessary adjustments to one’s security requirements so as to conform to the meeting of new challenges.

There were a total of nine South African defence manufacturers present as contributors to the exhibition, with the associated stand and the weaponry, vehicles and other equipment on display and being practically demonstrated on the ranges and vehicle testing sites at Gerotek. This was much of top of the South African Defence industry on show.

The South African Defence Industry is currently in a technically and scientifically advanced state and is very open to receiving enquiries from export markets. Paradigm Alliance has had much experience in supporting, dealing with and concluding this kind of trade agreement. Together with the actual agreement goes all the planning and training for continued technically sound operations to ensure customer has peace of mind and is assured of a cost-effective solution.
